HALO EFFECT IN SPORTS BETTING

HALO EFFECT IN SPORTS BETTING
Halo effect or halo effect appears when the General impression of a large group of people about a person, event or phenomenon is significantly overstated. Halo effect can be manifested in many areas of human activity, including rates.

Often, fans tend to overestimate the teams that have a bright history and are known for victories in major tournaments, but which have little prerequisites for victory in the next match or in the next tournament.

A striking example of the halo effect in betting is the Brazilian national football team. To win the team in the upcoming world Cup 2018 can be put in bookmakers with a coefficient of 9.00. Only the reigning world champion – the German national team-has a great chance of success (the coefficient is 5.00).

Fans consider Brazil a favorite largely because most of them know that the team is the leader in winning the world championship (5-time champion). The team is also known for such stars of the past as Pele, KAFU, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Rivaldo . If you look at the performance of the team at the world championship of the last three draws, it turns out that twice the team could not overcome the stage of the quarter-finals. Only at the home championship in 2014, Brazil took 4th place, epic losing in the semifinals to the Germans with a score of 1:7. The team shows weak results at the Cup of America. In the 2011 and 2015 tournaments, she was able to enter only the top eight, and in the 2016 tournament she was not able to overcome the group round at all.

Of the European examples, the halo effect is particularly well manifested in the expectations of the game of English Liverpool and Moscow Spartacus. Both teams are, of course, the grandees of their countries, but the last Liverpool championship is dated to the season 1989-90. As you can see, there are no objective prerequisites to ensure that from year to year to make the team among the favorites of these tournaments, but the coefficients of bookmakers are formed because of the mood of fans who are inclined to reassess these teams.

The halo effect is also often seen when a player who has previously played in major clubs enters a minor tournament. Even though the player's form is already far from ideal, fans tend to believe that he will play head and shoulders above the opponents.

If a star player becomes a coach, the fans believe in his success much more than in the success of a little-known coach who devoted half his life to coaching career. And despite the fact that good players rarely become good coaches.

In some cases, the reverse halo effect can be observed. For example, if a well-known team does not pass the qualifying round of European cups, then the next year it is usually not among the favorites of the tournament, although the failure of last season can only be explained by banal bad luck.

The halo effect in bets leads to a biased assessment of teams and players, which is why bettor puts on markets with understated coefficients. To eliminate the halo effect, you should use the maximum amount of data in the analysis of the event and try not to pay attention to the cliched conclusions of sports publications.

I really like the halo effect in sports. A very interesting topic about sports betting in online casinos. As I understand it, the halo effect is a general impression of something. This is one of the most common mistakes made by inexperienced players driven by intuition. Bets made in this way are rarely successful, and all because of the erroneous impression of specific athletes or teams.

I noticed that the topic of bets and casinos has become very popular lately. Can you really earn real money like this? I have no such experience. It seemed to me that betting is a game and an accident. How do you win?

I agree, but in football different things can happen and you can even beat a weak team to a strong one. I also made bets before and even a strong team with a low coefficient lost. So it’s hard to guess which team will win. A cool site, maybe I'll try to play there.

this information is really necessary to use when choosing bets. but do not have to bid it to win a clear favorite. it is possible to vary the rates offered by the bookmaker and to choose the most suitable and winning rate for example on total more or less or on odds of this or that team.
