Y U C C
York University Canoe Club
These pages are intended to be a resource for both students
at York and paddlers everywhere. YUCC, like most university paddling clubs,
is a mixture of good paddlers who throw themselves down anything, and novices
who still swim on grade II. There are however, three things which link everyone
in the club:
- That special touch of crazyness - that strange feeling which convinces
you that getting up early on a sunday to go and paddle a freezing cold river
is a really good idea...
- Love of paddling - most of the club will happily eschew everything
else on offer if there is are reports of good surf or river levels somewhere
within a days drive.
- Alcohol. 'Nuff said. Not only are we paddlers, but we are students
as well! YUCC has an extremly active social life.
For those of you who are new to paddling,
it's quite simple. By strapping yourself in a large piece of plastic, you get
to flow down rivers with grace (!?), admiring nature and other paddlers. If
you're a bit more daring, you can throw yourselves down the kind of rivers which
will allow you and the aforesaid bit of plastic to get completely trashed in
a large stopper (backlooping wave which doesn't let you get out!).
